On Monday we went to see Dr. Sharma for a post-op mouth appointment. He was pleased that Gavin's mouth seems to be healing very well. There was a little bit of infection (same spot as before) so he put Gavin on an antibiotic. The positive news is that if and when Dr. Pal wants to start chemo again, Dr. Sharma gave us the go ahead. Of course we will continue to try the hormone therapy for the next 2 months but if that doesn't work then at least we can move forward with chemo.
We went to see the pain specialist today, Dr. Chang. Gavin was supposed to get a celic plexus (sp?) block today for his abdominal pain. Unfortunately since he had to start an antibiotic, they couldn't do the block. After talking with the doc it was determined that since Gavin's back/rib pain is more bothersome, he would do a block up in that region next week instead of the lower block. I am still not happy with this doctor though. He does a lot of talking over our heads. I also get the feeling that he is all about treating symptoms and not treating the patient as an individual. I know Southeast Pain has tons and tons of patients but I really hate feeling like a number. Also, the good doc, when we addressed the wrongly written script and the stress that it caused, didn't even apologize. Instead he made it seem like we should have known what to do, that being to have pharmacy call on call doc, etc. I wrote about a page of comments on the comment sheet they give you during each visit. I am going to give them this week to get back with me and address these many issues. If I haven't heard from them on Tuesday, I am going to call and raise some heck. We have gone through so much that this impersonal care is completely unacceptable. Hopefully they will just switch us to a different doctor within the practice that might be a better fit. I think I have so much animosity towards this doctor right now that it's best to not see him again. I'll let you know how it goes!
Well the kids all started back to school this week much to their chagrin. It seems like time is just flying by and they are all getting way too old way too quickly. Mackenzie has a ton of kids in her class that she knows, lots of drama girls so the teacher should have fun with that! Austin on the other hand, doesn't know a lot of kids but has 2 teachers that he has had before and likes. He is also trying out for football next week and is excited about that opportunity. Drew finally got his schedule figured out and got out of the dreaded spanish 3 class. He probably has an ideal schedule right now so he is a happy camper. His choral trip this year is all the way to the Pacific Coast in San Francisco. Unfortunately it is a pretty pricey trip so he will definitely have to fundraise to offset the cost. At the moment he is selling Citipass books for $25. If you are interested, let me know or catch him in passing. I think he will also be selling that famous cheesecake and cookie dough in October so be thinking about that. We both thank you in advance for supporting him.
Thanks to Lisa Pool for the delish enchiladas. We are a mexican food loving family!
We are off to the mountains this weekend so if you are going, we will see you there!
Love and blessings,
Maria
