I'm not sure how I pictured chemo but I'm sure it's not how it really happens. Our day yesterday started at the oncology office at 10:45...they were running behind so we didn't even see a doctor until around 11:30. A quick check-up by Dr. Pal and then back to the chemo room. Here's a little description of the chemo room in case you've never been in one. It's a large room with recliner chairs lined up at the edge, probably about 10-12 of them. There are snacks, crackers and the like, on tables in the middle and a small fridge stocked w/ sodas and juice. Curtains separate the chairs and each chair has a t.v. to provide distraction. Blood work came first then some saline then the steroid and anti-nausea meds. Finally after what seemed like forever, the first chemo drug, VP-16. More saline and then the 2nd chemo drug, carboplatin. We were done a little after 3 p.m., strangely exhausted even though it was just sitting around watching fluids drip.
Gavin is doing really well so far. No signs of nausea at all and he has been able to eat. He does seem to be a little more tired then usual. He fell asleep eary last night, which is better then seeing the Buckeyes fall apart on national t.v.
Gavin has chemo today and Wednesday at 1 p.m. and those both should be much shorter days. He is hoping that he feels well enough to make it to the Crossing this Friday.
Thanks for all of the cards and words of encouragement and prayer. They make the rough days so much better. A special thanks to Karen Harris for a wonderful meal, we all enjoyed it so much.
Have a very blessed week!
Maria

Glad to hear it went well. I really hope we see you guys Friday. BTW, not too sorry about the Buckeyes, I love my SEC ;-) That was one of the few times you'll ever see me root for Florida! - Jen Moore
