Happy November

Well my busy life is getting in the way of keeping up with the blog. I guess it's good that there's not much to report.

I'll update the medical news first.

Gavin finished his 3rd round of chemo last week. That's after spending a weekend in quarantine due to a low white blood count level. I think we're expecting him to have to go into seclusion a few days out of each cycle from here on out. While the first round kicked his butt, the 2nd and 3rd have been better. The new anti-nausea drug, Emend, and the drop in chemo dosage seem to be working.

It's getting near impossible for the nurses to find veins that are working so on the 26th of November he will be getting a Power Port. Basically it's a device that will be inserted under the skin near his collarbone area and remain there as long as he is in treatment. The nurses will use a special needle for chemo, blood draws, etc. The special thing about a power port is that once techs are trained he will be able to use this port site for CTs and PET scans.

At the moment the doc is planning on 4 rounds of chemo for sure. After that he is trying to schedule another CT/PET scan to check the status. The results there plus Gavin's body's status will determine if there are rounds 5 and 6. Next round will be Nov. 26 immediately after the port is installed.

We have been focused this past week on the Broadway revue at church, "A Little Night Music." It's been a busy week but all of the work was so worth it. Drew sang "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" from Guys and Dolls and then he was Joseph from "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat" in the finale as well as being part of the chorus. Mackenzie got to sing with the girls ensemble, portraying Molly in "A Hardknock Life." The girls were amazing and you could tell they were having a blast up there. I had a chance to dance with the ladies in the finale and we are all bummed that it's over. The whole show was fantastic, we have such an amazing group of people at St. Andrew's. I can't wait for everyone to see the video!

ATTENTION!!!! Save July 25-26 on your calendar for the next 24
24 Hours of Booty! More details to come.

Gotta go, back to church to cook for SAYM.

Love and blessings to all!
Maria
