Finally...chemo

Dr. Pal gave the go ahead to start chemo today. Gavin will be getting the drug Camptosar, one day a week for 3 weeks and then getting a week off. Dr. Pal is hoping to get in 2 rounds (2 months worth) in before repeating scans. If Gavin is doing well on it and pain is in control, he said he might even possibly stretch it to 3 rounds (3 months worth). So far Gavin seems to be feeling ok but if I remember correctly, side effects might hit 3rd or 4th day once IV anti-nausea drug is out of his system.

Gavin finished radiation on Tuesday and we are praying that it will be totally effective in shrinking the tumor. He saw Dr. Sharma on Wednesday and while he didn't get the all clear that would end those office visits, the doc said he is healing but just really slow. I know I have extolled the virtue of Dr. Sharma quite often in this blog and some of you might be wondering how can a doc be this awesome. I have ultimate proof that Dr. Sharma is a great guy. He came by to visit Gavin in the hospital last week! He had to come early before his office hours. We missed him because we were still sleeping and he didn't want to wake us up. I ask you this...have you ever heard of an oral surgeon coming by to visit a patient in the hospital when the hospitalization has nothing to do with the mouth? Dr. Sharma is definitely one of the good guys!

Thanks to Katie and Maggie Patton for the yummy dinner on Tuesday night.

And as always thanks for your thoughts, prayers, and support.

Love,
Maria
